Help me give my students materials to stay fit and healthy at school. Water bottles, playground equipment, and cleaning supplies will improve physical fitness and academic achievement.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The mission of our school is to accomplish excellence and equity in education for our diverse population by ensuring that we will provide each student with a positive attitude toward the self and learning. We will prepare students to think creatively and critically, to communicate effectively via oral and written means, to welcome diversity in people, to appreciate the arts and to contribute positively to society." Our school serves students from grades K-8. The student population is 93% Latino and more than 90% are from low-income homes.
After over a year of virtual learning, my classroom has an extremely broad range of abilities and needs.
For some of my first graders, this is their very first school experience. We are learning at different levels, but we are ALL learning!
My Project
So many routines have changed in pandemic times. We eat breakfast and lunch in the classroom, and go through a LOT of cleaning supplies each week. Masks and tissue are always needed, and will be even more during the upcoming cold and flu season.

Since students can no longer drink from drinking fountains, water bottles will ensure that they stay hydrated throughout the day.
Finally, an assortment of playground equipment is not only important for physical fitness, but also fosters the play necessary for first graders to build friendships and learn sportsmanship. As our Wisconsin winter approaches, some of the items can also be used in the classroom on those "indoor recess" days.
