Happily Ever After

My students need reading materials that focus on the fairy tale theme. These books are needed to meet the Common Core State Standards that are required in second grade.

My Students

Since we are one of two schools in the district that do not receive Title I funding, our students miss out on opportunities that other students in our city have. We are not provided with books, computers, Smartboards, and other materials needed to implement the Common Core Curriculum.

My second grade students attend a public elementary school with grades K-5.

They come from different kinds of families and cultures, each having much to offer to our school and classroom environment. They are a beautiful, diverse group of children who are eager and motivated to succeed. They work diligently and love to explore learning in many different ways.

My Project

The fairy tale collections that we requested will provide my students with a variety of texts to read and enjoy. Students are required to compare and contrast fairy tales and the elements of them. By having these resources, students can enter the magical world while working toward meeting the standards. These books will foster their love of reading and also provide them with opportunities to extend their thinking and write creative responses to them.

Children need good literature to ensure their success in reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. Your donations will put books into the hands of children which will foster a love of reading in them. Reading is the key to "happily ever after".
