Help me give my students a class set of multisensory handwriting materials, which includes a slate board, chalk, and alphabet wood construction pieces.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome to our class!
You are guaranteed to leave with a smile after a virtual visit to our room, due to the heartwarming nature of 24 energized kindergarteners.
Our school is Title I where most students receive financial assistance to help pay for their lunches.
My Project
Handwriting practice for young learners helps to improve their fine motor and visual-motor skills.
They will need a variety of opportunities to practice this.
One engaging way is to use the wooden construction pieces to form alphabet letters. According to Learning Without Tears, "students can (also) trace the letter with a wet sponge (on the slate), dry the letter outline with a cloth or tissue, then 'try' forming the letter on their own. Wet-Dry-Try appeals to different learning styles and gives just the right amount of handwriting practice in a hands-on way that feels like fun—not like work."
With your help, our class will learn letter formation for capital and lower case letters -- foundational learning that contributes to literacy and future grades.
