This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are four years old. For many this is their first time in school. They are primarily English language learners. They are excited and love learning.
Young children learn best through hands-on activities and play.
My students learn letters, numbers, colors, and thematic topics by working together and having fun. Our school just opened and due to budgetary issues lacks many materials necessary in order to run a rich classroom environments. Often we are limited due to lack of resources.
My Project
Our school is using the Handwriting Without Tears program. This is a great way to teach letters and numbers to small children. The program is very interactive, however we have limited supplies. In order to make this work we need more materials so that the children will get ample time to work on their skills.
Young children are eager to learn and what better way to encourage letter and number learning than to make it fun!
Handwriting Without Tears has songs, movements, and center activities which teach the necessary skills to begin writing. Some of the materials we are requesting are chalk boards, magnetic writing boards, and play dough mats. The children can use these materials to hone their fine motor skills. This is a wonderful program that we would love to utilize to it's full potential.
