We just had an articulation meeting with second grade, and the teachers really stressed that the students handwriting skills need more practice. Ever since covid, the fine motor activities that children participated in at home has dwindled and been replaced by screen time. We have first graders that donʻt know how to use scissors or glue bottles. Letter formation can often be haphazard and difficult to decipher.
These tools will help little hands practice their fine motor skills and handwriting.
The chunky pencils will be used to help with their grip, making it easier for them to grasp the pencil. There are also a few chunky colored pencils to aid in developing the proper pencil grip. The handwriting journals will be used to revisit skills learned in kindergarten and ensure that students are ready for writing in second grade. The paper will have wide rule guide lines so that students can write with support.
