My Project

My students, second language learners and Afro-Americans, enjoy learning. However, they are attending a different school while their regular school is being rebuilt. This situation has left our classroom with only the basics. As a whole, my class is behind academically and I need to keep them engaged in learning.

After finishing workbook pages, solving math problems, writing essays and reading, students need a break and time to include hands on activities that are interesting, fun and creative and simultaneously support academics.

Science, math and art centers will be a regular part of our classroom environment. Students will enjoy science-based activities, like building robotic stem toys, investigating plants growing in water, examining magnets and properties of matter.

They will play games that support student math proficiency. Students will deepen their knowledge of science thru Science Spin magazines and increase their awareness of current events and topics by reading Scholastic News. Art materials will enable them to focus on artistic expression and creativity.

I want to create a learning environment of exploration and investigation and at the same time tap into and develop students’ artistic side. I want my students to understand that learning does take a lot of hard work, but that it can also be fun and engaging. My goal is to pique students interest in learning.
