Each one of my students is creative and compassionate in their own way. As you get to know them throughout the year, you find their strengths and weaknesses. My students explode with potential success.
Engagement in learning significantly increases when my students are working in their groups around the room.
This shows me that each student is able to feel comfortable within the learning environment. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My students come to school with a smile on their face and willingness to learn. It's always exciting to hear stories from their weekend adventures to start a new week of learning.
My Project
With my Hands On with Math Donors Choose Grant, I am wanting to add to my math manipulatives. I have chosen several items that would help expand my math curriculum and give my students a way to learn by having hands on activities.
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go.
We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The clock set will allow students to practice telling time to the hour and half hour. The dominoes will be used for many hands on enrichment games to reinforce the standard that was taught in class. When I teach about shapes, the block activity cards will allow the students to practice using the shapes to build. They will also be able to hold them in their hand to help them learn how to describe them. Students will be able to use the 3-D block set to help them understand geometric terms such as vertices, edges, and faces.
The flash cards will be used to help students master their facts and learn to work with others. Being able to add and subtract quickly will help students in many ways when it comes to math skills.
Students learn in so many ways and hands on learning with manipulatives is just one way to reach students and engage them in learning. With your help, my students will be able to express their learning with hands on materials.
