Hands-on Vocational Learning Opportunities

My Project

I provide English and Social Studies instruction for students with significant developmental disabilities that dictate that they receive a significantly modified curriculum. I teach four sections of English and 1 section of Social Studies. All 46 of my students require instruction provided with reduced depth and scope and highly structured lessons with significant visual and verbal support. My students' developmental and functional levels range from 15 months to early elementary. This means many of my students are currently developing vocational skills needed for them to successfully gain support employment after high school. 10 of my students have severe or profound cognitive impairments, 5 have visual impairments, and the rest have moderate cognitive impairment and coexisting conditions such as Autism or Traumatic Brain injury. In addition to having pervasive developmental disabilities, 15 of my students are English language learners. My students learn best when provided with multi-modal instruction with opportunities to have hands-on practice. The Pre-Vocational Skills Task Assortment A will help my students to develop executive functioning skills while providing practice for vocational skills they will need in the future.
