My Students

What do Mexico, Kenya, Zimbabwe, China, Bangladesh and Ukraine all have in common? These are the countries my students have immigrated from to build a better future for themselves in the United States. They have an array of cultures and speak several languages.

My students attend a large urban high school in a predominately low socio-economic neighborhood.

I usually provide many of my students with supplies, such as notebooks and pencils, but am not able to give them every resource out there.

The majority of my students are English Learners who will be the first in their families to go to college. They are highly motivated students who will go the extra mile to achieve their goals.

My Project

Using the products purchased for this project will allow my students to have a better understanding of Precalculus concepts. The Physics Trigonometry set allows my students to conceptualize the unit circle and understand how and why it works. After gaining the understanding of the unit circle, the wipe off unit circle mats will help the students learn all the coordinates on the unit circle in a more fun, engaging way. After we have a solid understanding of the unit circle, the hands-on trigonometry proofs enable us to understand where they come from and how they relate to each other and the unit circle. In addition to the unit circle, I am constantly trying to incorporate SAT questions. The Humongous Book of SAT Problems will give me more resources to pull from, helping my students be more successful on the SAT.

Precalculus can be a challenging course and having growth mindset posters remind students to not give up and remember anything worth doing is not easy.

When students do struggle, the posters will be reminders to keep trying and attend tutoring. The dry-erase teacher coordinate board will be incredibly helpful during tutoring or working with students in groups. It will allow me to tutor in a more informal setting and it will feel less like a lecture to the students.
