Hands-On Tools to Support Literacy, Science, Music, and Play
Help me give my students resources and hands-on materials to support language arts, science, social studies, music, and social emotional learning throughout our day.
I've chosen a lot of cool hands-on tools and resources that I'd love to give my students access to. Some of these tools and resources include...
Let’s Find Out: These bright, colorful, and engaging science and social studies weekly readers are designed by Scholastic and made just for Kindergarten.
Each week has a different theme. For example, the four themes in October are pumpkins, fire safety, autumn changes, and bats. In addition to the weekly reader, each issue comes with additional multimedia resources, such a videos/movement suggestions/a big reader for circle reading time, all of which help build science and social studies knowledge and increase vocabulary.
Easy Piano Sheet Music for Kids: A Beginners First Book of Easy to Play Classics: I grew up playing the piano and recently inherited a nice keyboard for the classroom. I would love to play classic children’s songs for students during our community circles and throughout our day. Not only is music so engaging and calming for kids and adults alike, it brings people together, builds community and would help me to teach academic concepts, promote rich oral language, teach rhythm, and provide more opportunities for movement.
Piano Keyboard Stickers: Not only would I love to play music for students, I’d love to teach them some how-to-play basics as well! These piano keyboard stickers would help me do just that (and help teach letter names to my young learners as a bonus!)
Baby Dolls and Accessories: I was fortunate enough to receive donations to purchase a kitchen set up and doll bed for my students last year. This year, I’d like to purchase baby dolls of many ethnicities and the accessories to further encourage my students’ imaginative play, which is so important for language development and social skills.
