Hands-on Third Grade Science

Help me give my students materials to have a hands-on STEM experience in the classroom using the Simple Machines Lab and the non-fiction texts to accompany their understanding.

My Students

I teach 3rd grade in a fast-growing suburb of Salt Lake City. We are a traditional school. Our students are from a wide variety of economic backgrounds. We have single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments in our boundaries. It is a high-density housing area in the fast-growing city of Herriman.

My class is ready and eager to learn.

We have a very wide range in ability levels, but all students are progressing and excited about school. We are off to a great start.

We have many services and programs in place to help the students be successful, but specific resources for individual student needs/levels are sometimes hard to come by.

My Project

These science materials will enable my students to have a better understanding of the science core for third grade, by having a hands-on experience.

Simple Machines and Force In Motion are the core to third grade current curriculum and the newly adopted SEEd standards .

I will be responsible to teach this strand/standards for the entire third grade team.

Having the non-fiction texts along with hands-on materials will help students better understand the new science concepts. Approximately 150 students will benefit from this DonorsChoose.org project.

I appreciate the opportunity to enrich and enliven the classroom experience for all third grade students at our school.
