As the school Media Specialist, I am always looking for ways to collaborate with teachers, and not just ELA teachers, but Social Studies, Math, Science and Encore teachers too! This project is a request for supplies that will be used for a hands-on learning activity in collaboration with our Science department. Students will be introduced to electrical circuits and experiment with creating their own.
By the end of the activity, students will be able to distinguish the difference between a parallel circuit and a series circuit.
They will use the string of Christmas lights to learn about how circuits work. Then they will form groups and use the lightbulbs, alligator clips, and batteries to create their own circuits. We will finish by attaching our light circuits to the large empty wall in the Media Center to create an electrical collage.
The Media Center is a great place for hands-on activities, because not only is there much more physical space, I am able to lend my research expertise and an extra pair of hands to the lesson. We would love to receive the supplies to pull off a truly incredible hands-on STEM activity!
