Hands on STEM based activities enhance students learning!
My students need STEM based items in order to enhance their understanding of the way things work. By using Legos to build vehicles and K'NEX to construct bridges their knowledge of engineering will increase.
My students are creative, active, and have positive attitudes towards learning! Our class is a mixture of regular education and gifted students, most who have an interest in STEM based activities.
They enjoy learning and incorporating a variety of hands on STEM based activities to enhance their understanding of how the world works.
Each child brings a diverse background to the group. We are a school in a district that is economically disadvantaged with a very diverse group of students who truly enjoy coming to school every day.
My Project
Our STEM classroom is set up in stations. We do many things with engineering, programming, small engines, and product design. Each station allows students to explore one item in depth. The items I am requesting will add to a station. We have designed and constructed items out of everyday materials such as pipecleaners, dominoes and a mishmash of Legos, but having these Lego, Playstix and K'NEX kits can help dramatically add to the students understanding of how different things work. The Makey Makey demonstrates basic coding and connections. With many different projects the students can get a wide view of the topic being learned.
Our students comprehend these concepts much more with hands on activites.
This STEM focus has been eye opening for some of the students. They are realizing that every one of them is able to create something useful. They are proud of the projects they create. The more items and content that I can expose my students to, I believe they can continue to find things they enjoy about school and the projects they are involved with. Plus many of the students have found interest in different things they now have been exposed to.
