it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the Bronx, NYC, PreK to 5th grade. During the COVID-19 pandemic years, students have lost valuable learning time. Many students stayed at home for remote learning. This prevented the students to learn to read on their grade reading level. All students are now in-person learning. Students are eager to be back at school to learn and meet their teachers and friends. I am providing academic intervention support for children who need extra support in reading. Students enjoy learning how to read in small groups.
My Project
I am teaching reading to 6 to 7 students, K-2nd grade in small groups every day. These students are below their reading levels and need extra support. I will be using the magnetic alphabet letters and magnetic writing board to teach important sight words and phonics. Students will be using these materials to make words and write the words on the board. This hands-on experience will motivate and help them to learn to read in fun ways. Students will remember words better than just looking at the words in print. I would also like to use whisper phones during the independent reading time. Students can hear themselves reading without being disturbed by other students in a group. This will motivate students and help them to concentrate on reading.
