This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are entering their first year in Head Start. They are all three years old, and come from low income families. Since this is their very first school experience we try to create a positive, fun, supportive environment, in which they can learn social skills, expand their communication abilities, and learn the basic academics like letters, colors, and shapes.
Young children learn through play and hands on materials.
Our students love to sing and dance, get creative with building blocks, or use their imagination in dramatic play. They are learning to create friendships and explore new ideas that they may not have been exposed to before.
My Project
Preschoolers use their hands to explore and use their senses to investigate. Our Head Start classroom is required to have a Sand and Water table. Unfortunately, our sensory table broke and could not be used by the students. They missed being able to build sand castles or dig for buried treasure. We can also use the sand to help develop pre-writing skills.
Art is as natural as sunshine and as vital as nourishment- Maryann F Kohl.
We also need a classroom Easel to give the children a chance to use their creativity to paint and draw.
Thank you very much for your support. I know my students will love these new materials that you are helping to provide.
