My Students

This year I have 3 classes of 30, 19 and 22 Middle School students, learning Science in our bilingual program. They all come from very different economic backgrounds and learning abilities. What they have in common, though, is that they are curious and love to experience things on their own.

Moving, touching, and experimenting is what keeps them engaged, and engagement is the only path to learning.

Worksheets keep them busy, but not necessarily engaged. Then, my students need hands-on activities that allow them to explore and experience science on their own terms.

My Project

The lab materials that I am requesting will allow my students to explore and experience many of the Next Generation Science Standards for Middle School using a hands-on approach.

These kits and materials will expose my students to the fields of Biotechnology, Chemistry, Life Science and Physics in a way that is engaging to them and will spark their curiosity, laying the foundation of their Scientific knowledge.

Students will experience first hand many of the scientific concepts that are included in the NGSS curriculum, which will develop their interest in Science. For instance, one of the kits will allow students to extract their own DNA, and then take it home with them in a necklace that they will make in the classroom.
