My Project

Our school uses Mystery Science as our science curriculum, which is awesome. It's hands-on and very engaging. It also requires a fair amount of resources that aren't readily available on our campus, like paper plates, plastic spoons, straws, etc. For example, Lesson 1 of Material Magic requires 23 ft. of aluminum foil, 60 clothespins, 8 8oz. plastic cups, 30 paper lunch bags, 30 paper plates, 30 sheets of paper towel, 16 plastic spoons, and 90 feet of string or yarn. That's just for 1 lesson. Lesson 2 requires 2 coolers, aluminum foil, plastic water bottles, styrofoam cups and socks. Lesson 3 requires candies with different melting points and thick paper plates. It's been challenging to put the lessons together, as it always seems we don't have something we need. I'm planning ahead for next year and obtaining many of the supplies our 2nd grade team will need to carry out our experiments for next school year. Our intent is to reuse as many of the items, as possible, and we will make kits based on the lessons, so the prep will be done ahead of time. I have compiled a list of items needed for many of the activities. It is not a comprehensive list, but it does address the needs of many of the activities. Most of the other items are things that I already expect to have, or would be able to get fairly easily. Thank you so much for supporting our wonderful second grade learners.
