Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a great community of students in a very low socio-economic area. Although the majority of students qualify for free and reduced lunches, families try hard to supply their students with the supplies they need to succeed in school. Unfortunately, many students still rely heavily on the school to supply all their resources for learning, from pencils to Chromebooks.
Even in a small, rural school, all students deserve to be able to learn from STEM fields with subjects such as robotics, computer science, and simply fun activities focused on math and science.
As a teacher of math, science, robotics, and computer science, I want to give my students the best learning experience they can have, with equipment and supplies that are often hard to come by in a small district. With your help, I hope to help these students have a middle school experience that will set the stage for their future careers and interests for years to come.
My Project
My students rely on the our school to supply many of their resources for learning. Although we try to supply everything we can for our students, I still end up spending a lot of money on items to aid their learning experience. These materials will help the students as they work on hands on experiments to engage their learning in the areas of STEM. From basic classroom supplies, such as glue sticks to help students with their interactive science notebooks, to chemicals that will allow students to perform safe chemical reactions, this project will benefit students' all around learning experience.
With these materials, my classes will perform hands on experiments that will create colorful chemical reactions and experiment with electricity and other properties of physical science.
My students will use the DC power supply to help them create robots and learn science and technology through their experimentation.
My classes will also use the presentation boards to make projects to present their learning to other classes in hopes of showing their projects in science fairs. I hope to make their experience inspire them to pursue further education in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
