Hands-on Science Experience for 7th Grade Students

My Students

My students impress me every day with their determination and enthusiasm for science. These last few years have been especially rough on them, and they are all just trying to survive the difficult circumstances that we are all under. I have watched as many of them carry the burden of caring for younger siblings while also trying to keep their own grades up. I want to create an environment where my students feel valued and safe, and where they can explore all that science has to offer them.

My Project

I can find ways to make lessons meaningful and interesting, but giving the students real-life work does so much more. Using dissections, they more clearly understand how different body systems work together to create an organism. After doing dissections, I often have students who say that they are more interested in going into the medical field.

"Fuzzy Mud" has been a great case study project that teaches students real-world science in context, rather than just through disjointed lessons.

These books will help students who need extra time to read outside of class.
