"Hello! I am a new fourth grade teacher at a Title I, at-risk school in North Carolina. Because of smaller budgets, and a need for various supplies, this district does not provide much to their beginning teachers, particularly at their low-income schools where the resources are not as plentiful. I have struggled to find available resources to supplement my classroom materials in order to enrich my students’ lives. I believe that school should be a memorable experience that creates life-long learners to those who might not have the encouragement and support from home.
We have an extremely high rate of free and reduced lunch, and many of our students come from disadvantaged homes. Our students do not have a lot of hands-on experience with Science outside of the classroom setting. Because of this lack of experience, I believe it is my job to provide them with even more to compensate for what they are missing out on. My students need to be able to participate in the experiments in order to fully grasp the science concept.
I teach a great group of kids with a huge range of ability levels. These materials will allow me to differentiate within the classroom. I will be able to have a small group reviewing the concept with me, while the other students work in small groups to complete the science experiments. This will guaranteed needs-based instruction and will allow me to enrich my lessons for my above-grade level students.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my proposal!
In order to meet the needs of all of my students, I feel that a set of leveled books will allow my students to read on their own level without feeling self-conscious about their abilities. Because my students have such wide ranges, and different interests, these books would prove to be absolutely perfect for my classroom setting.
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal!
