Help me give my students lab supplies so we can engineer hot packs in our classroom as we learn about chemical reactions and the engineering design process.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Holland's classroom raised $363

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's often said that as we grow older, we begin to get less curious. My students defy this. As the school year goes on, they get more curious as they make connections between concepts and start looking at the world in new ways.
My students are curious and creative problem solvers who make insightful observations as they engage with and learn from each other.
I teach at a Title I school with a diverse population of students who show me every day that, if given the chance, they will rise to the occasion.
My Project
"Is that for us?!" "Do we get to do a lab today?!" As a science teacher, this is one of the best things to hear as students enter your classroom, students excited about science! And the best way to get students excited is to give them hands-on experiences in the classroom.
During our chemical hot pack project, students will explore the question, "How can we use chemical reactions to design a solution to a problem?"
Using the lab supplies you donate students will begin our project by exploring non-traditional ways to heat up food during natural disasters such as the flameless heater in MREs. After performing some hands-on experiments and investigations, students will realize that the heat generated in the MRE and hand warmers is coming from a chemical reaction.
Using this knowledge, students will then be challenged to design and build a flameless heater of their own. Students will work through the engineering design process, including testing and redesigning their prototypes before sharing their solutions with a wider audience.
More than half of students from low‑income households
