Hands on Science Education in the Preschool Classroom

Help me give my students tools such as magnetic activity tins, real bugs discovery kits, motion discovery tubes, and a first science kit which includes a microscope, telescope, and more to help them develop a love for science.

My Project

This project will help bring life to our science center in our Title I classroom. My classroom is a mixed age group classroom. I have 3 and 4 year olds and some of my students will be 5 before the end of the school year. Our school is located in a low income community and many of our students have limited access to materials. I am requesting hands on activities to help my students develop an early love for science. Our current science center is small and students have enjoyed the materials we have, however the students have enjoyed them so much that many of the materials we already have need to be replaced.

It's always amazing seeing the natural curiosity of my students and their love for learning.

I am requesting motion discovery tubes to help my students learn about the different aspects of motion. I am also requesting magnetic activity tins that focus on plant and animal life cycles, insects, and animals. These activity tins will provide students with different hands on activities such as sorting, sequencing, etc. while also learning about different science topics. I would also like my students to have a real bugs discovery kit. This would allow my students to get an up close look at real bugs and it comes with a fact book to help them learn more about each bug. These materials as well as other materials requested will be integrated into our science center. Students will be able to use these materials throughout the day during center time, small group, as well as whole group.

Investing in this project, will help provide my students with materials that will help them develop an early love for science and the world around them.
