Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class at Newton D. Baker School of the Arts in Cleveland, OH, are a self-contained special education classroom which serves students in grades 6 through 8, each with unique learning and abilities. All of the students qualify for free lunch and breakfast. Half of the class are also learning english as a second language.
Our goal is to create an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages engagement, focus and progress among our students.
To help achieve this, we are seeking funding for a set of lower and upper case magnetic letters with magnetic board. These letters will be used for phonics and spelling skills to teach students who are emergent readers how to read and progress in a hands-on fun way. This set is helpful because it color codes the vowels and the consonant which is helpful in learning CVC or CCVC words. The larger set allows for more letters in small groups to then create sentences. The other sets with digraphs and diphthongs allows the ones who progressed from CVC and CCVC to learn the rules of phonics and spelling but with visual paired support. Some of the students need the actual shape to differentiate the letters, where some have progressed enough to differentiate but need larger tiles. These align perfectly with the state of Ohio Dyslexia approved research and the Science of Reading.
