My Students
In my new and exciting position as Teacher on Special Assignment- Literacy Coach~ I am privileged to be able to intact, mentor, tutor, and generally work with all of the students at my school. Our school is an urban elementary school, located in a very depressed area of West Oakland.
The children come from a neighborhood that is rife with poverty, gang activity, high crime, and low employment.
I am in every classroom, and in this expanded role, I am privy to more of the factors which conflate a number of different economic and social issues in the classrooms
As such, I'd love to be able to offer technology to students that is wide and far-reaching as far as grade levels go. I am in need of technology ( hardware, accessories, and programs) that I can use for any age/grade level. While my school is considered a STEM (Science, Technology, Math, and Science) school, we are in dire need of updated technology.
We have refurbished and repaired computers, some of which are working, some of which are not, that are so dated, they feature a slot for the floppy disk. I have an iPad, and not much else.

My Project
Writing well is the entree into so many advantages and opportunities. That skill begins now in the early years, and as part of that training, children need to have the experience and thrill of seeing their words on paper.
We have no printer. Having a printer in m room would facilitate this important step in writing, for the students.
Everyone sees differences.
My students are not immune to noticing how differently appointed their classroom is - especially with the advent of total access to technology on phones, tablets, etc. Even fictional characters in the cartoons and movies the students watch have classrooms that are far better resourced than our own.
When children have access - they have hope. Printing stories, reports, articles, essays....all of these projects will be enhanced with the tangible Hard Copy.
