Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the pleasure of working with dyslexia students at Sam Houston Elementary, a Title 1 campus in Port Arthur, Texas. Dyslexia students are special because they possess unique strengths and perspectives that contribute to their individuality and potential.

My students can benefit from hands-on manipulatives I am requesting as they support multi-sensory learning, concrete understanding, and increase engagement while reducing cognitive overload.

Students will enjoy cracking the code of decoding and encoding through the use of phonics mats and elkonin box paddles. Students can apply their learning of different syllable patterns to tackle "hard words" with syllable boards. The hands-on approach with visual representation helps with structured practice.

Ultimately, I want my students to become proficient readers who can effectively access and comprehend written information in academic and everyday situtations.

Mrs. Tran will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 28.
