This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds. STEM education is the great equalizer for them. It gives them the opportunity to be challeneged, and problem solve. I would really like to get some technology in their hands! What a great opportunity this would be for my students!
My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.
I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!
The majority of the students at my school are English Language Learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 80% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!
My Project
These items are simple things that make a huge impact on student learning. The number of the day chart teaches student math skills that go across multiple units! By practicing all of these skills, all year long, we build mathematicians who think fluidly about numbers. The letters let students manipulate sounds to build words, which them decode words they read in books. The ball seats will replace our rigid chairs, and allow students to wiggle around, build core strength, and focus on their work!
These tools, while simple, will make a huge and direct impact on my classroom.
All donations will directly impact my students in a positive way! Being able to put their hands on tools to build and construct makes knowledge stick! Who doesn't remember what it was like to be a first grader who was expected to sit still all day? These balance ball will redirect excess energy into productive learning! They cannot believe that there are people out there in the global community that care whether or not they succeed.
