This year I have 28 kids in my homeroom and 27 in my second class, I teach both classes Math, Science, and Social Studies. They all learn at different rates and various scenarios seem to motivate and encourage them.
Math and Science are areas where they seem to stay interested and want to share with their classmates, but we do not always have enough hands-on resources for them to use.
With both of my classes, I try to keep them highly engaged.
Our school is one of 23 other schools within our county. We consistently teach through all subjects, but in order for all students to remain engaged, I need to keep them interested in all of the subjects I teach. To achieve this our classroom would need more hands-on resources.
My Project
My project idea is to "FLIP" my classroom and have the whole day dedicated to technology within every subject area. My only downfall is not having all of the computers that my classroom needs. So, I decided to start with 2 Chromebooks in order to start a whole class set that we are able to use whenever and however we want in our classroom.
My students are all about STEM-related activities and they love documenting everything we do, so when I made the decision to "FLIP" our classroom it was an "Epic Idea!"
Throughout our year we have used student brought technology, school supported technology and our classroom computers, but there was always someone left out. With this technology within our classroom, we can use it in various ways. Some of my kids favorite techie activities have been, creating their own Social Studies and Science presentations through Prezi, working through scavenger hunts within Math, Science, and Social Studies, taking pictures of our STEM experiments and documenting them within their presentations.
Starting a Chrome Flipped classroom will enhance and increase the rigor within my classroom and it will definitely help prepare my students better for their future. We are working together to help build life-long learners!
