I work in a large middle school with a considerable population of students who live in poverty. I love working with my students and I try to do everything I can to make their experiences at school meaningful, fun, and memorable.
My particular students all have special needs and are working on skills that have been truly difficult for them to grasp.
A lack of consistent curriculum throughout grade levels is a significant contributing factor. One of the keys to helping students successfully learn is to have a consistent teaching style and standard material. It is hard to learn and move forward when every year each the materials you receive are piece-meal and lacking hands on materials.
My Project
Help my students reach their IEP goals and attain the math skills they need to move on in their education. The materials I am asking for will help my students understand math skills that they have been struggling with for years.
These materials will help my students physically interact with what they are learning, bringing multiple modes of learning right to their own desk and classroom.
I am switching from teaching a little bit of everything, to only teaching math and social studies next year, and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping my students exceed their goals and see that math can be fun.
