This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some students cannot just learn and understand by reading things on the board. Using the number lines, fraction and measurement hands-on manipulatives will help them grasp the math topics. A document camera will aid in showing how to use these hands-on manipulatives to the students.
I will be teaching sixth and seventh grade mathematics.
My students range from very low level math to a moderate level of math. My students need to be engaged constantly and shown various ways of working on a concept. Most of them do not come from great homes. They look forward to coming to school to get away from home life.
My Project
My students will be able to use these math manipulatives to understand the concepts that are being taught visually. They will be able to have hands-on stations to visually see how measurements are related to each other. Number lines will help students solve and visually see how to add and subtract integers. The Document camera will help me project the manipulativs on my board to show students how they are used.
These manipulatives, as well as the document camera, will allow another way (visually) for my students to understand different math concepts that are being taught.
Some students need to see visually first, to understand the concept. Afterwards, they are able to use the concepts they learn to use.
