Hands-on Math!

My Project

I am lucky enough to teach an energetic group of second graders who love to work with their hands when learning. They enjoy using different math tools to solve problems and to show their thinking. My students also love collaborating, working together, and playing educational games with each other.

We work on "thinking tasks" on vertical white boards a few times a week.

The magnetic math manipulatives will be so helpful for my students to use while working at the whiteboards. Students can use the manipulatives such as counters, base ten blocks, and number lines to show their math thinking.

My students will also be able to practice math skills using the games likes addition and subtraction Jenga or even the math centers that focus on various topics (addition, subtraction, time, money, etc.)

Math can be a very exciting subject to learn about but it can also be a little scary and confusing for some. Being able to use the manipulatives and games found in this project will make the learning and practice less intimidating for my students. They can use them to help convey their thoughts.
