Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first year teacher at a priority school in SW DC. Our school has been labeled as a "40-40" school, meaning that we are among the lowest performing schools in our district. One hundred percent of our kiddos receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school population also has a high number of special education students. In my room, I have a variety of learners, including students with ADHD, speech impediments, learning disorders and emotional disturbance.

We don't receive supplies from parents or the school, so we are trying to fill the gap with help from donors!

With your help, we can create a loving, warm learning environment for my first graders where they have access to all the materials they need to learn!

My Project

Our kindergarten class is in need of math manipulatives to access our common core Eureka curriculum! The unifix cubes will help us to practice counting and to make "math stairs" to practice learning about the concept of one more/one less. The counters will also help us to practice counting and for math fluency games. We will use the dice to practice number recognition and fluency.

As early math learners, we need hands-on materials and concrete representations to explore and learn math!

These materials will also allow our different types of learners to touch and hold math materials. Thank you for your support!
