My Students

Do you like math? Are you good math? If my students were to answer these questions the answers would be no. Often times we teachers give our students math worksheet after worksheet or do drill & practice with flashcards.This is not fun! Help me make math fun again by providing us with these manipulative's

I teach in a first grade class in an elementary school in Utah.

I currently have 24 students in my class. My students math academic abilities range from way below grade level (preschool level) to way above grade level (3rd grade math level). Not only is there a big variance in their academic abilities, there is also a range of learning styles in my classroom. My students are energetic enthusiastic 6 and 7 year olds. They love to learn and love to play learning games.

My Project

When I announce to my students that math time is approaching I am often greeted with groans and moans. My students complain that math is BORING!! They tell me how much they hate doing math worksheets every single day. But, with no math manipulative's and learning games, worksheets have to suffice. With the materials I have requested, I will be able to make math time not only fun, but a much better learning experience for my students. I will be able to teach my students about place value by using giant place value magnets. The students will be able to see and manipulate the place value magnets. I will be able to teach my students about three dimensional shapes by having them actually hold a representation of a three dimensional shape in their hands. This is just the beginning of what I will be able to do.My students will be able to use the math games to learn new concepts as well as solidify in their minds concepts we have been reviewing. How refreshing it will be to toss the worksheets!

In this day of literacy being the major focus in schools I feel as though math is often overlooked.

If we have to cut something out, math time is usually what is shortened. Help me make the most out of my math time by providing my students with these wonderful math learning games and manipulative's. Not only will these materials benefit my current students, but they will benefit many students in years to come.
