This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my Title 1 high school math classroom, poster-making supplies, playing cards, and games like Battleship, Uno, Connect 4, Mancala, and Scrabble are essential for engaging my incredible students. Many face challenges outside school, so hands-on, interactive learning helps them connect with math in meaningful ways. Poster supplies allow students to visualize concepts—graphing parabolas, illustrating geometric theorems, or creating anchor charts—turning abstract ideas into tangible, collaborative projects. My students take pride in their work, and their creativity never fails to amaze me.

Playing cards and games make math dynamic and fun.

Uno reinforces number sense and strategy, while Battleship teaches coordinate graphing and logical reasoning. Connect 4 and Mancala build strategic thinking and pattern recognition, and Scrabble strengthens numerical skills through scoring and probability. These games transform lessons into lively challenges, helping even hesitant learners embrace math with confidence. What I love most about my students is their enthusiasm—they light up when competing, collaborating, and discovering that math can be exciting.

Beyond academics, these resources teach teamwork, perseverance, and problem-solving. My students support each other, celebrating victories and working through struggles together. In a school with limited resources, these tools are more than just supplies—they’re bridges to confidence, joy, and deeper learning. With poster materials and games, I’m not just teaching math; I’m helping my students see their own potential.
