My students need hands-on items including 3 desktop files, 24 personal lapboards, 3 boxes of hanging file folders, dry erase markers, and a pack of dot dice to keep their attention and help ensure they are on task.
Our school is a free, charter school in Youngstown, Ohio serves students in grades K-8. We provide rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school, in college, and in life. We provide academic opportunities many other schools can not offer, such as the Concept Young Scholars Program, the opportunity to take Spanish or Turkish in middle school, and after school programs such as Cross Country, Track and Choir.
Located in an inner-city neighborhood, a majority of students are low-income and high poverty.
All students receive free breakfasts and free lunches. Despite this, they are motivated to learn.
My Project
I am asking for three desktop files, twenty-four personal lapboards, three boxes of hanging file folders, dry erase markers, and a pack of dot dice. I have requested file folder hangers so that I can have one per grade to differentiate work for each student - so each student will have their own folder with work at their level. Many of my students are below grade level and need an opportunity to review and practice math concepts from previous grades.
My middle school students need some "hands-on" items to help them stay on-task and participating.
I have requested dry erase boards and markers so they can participate at their seat versus just watching a few students at the board.
The dice and plastic envelopes are for educational games that my students enjoy playing.
