This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first-grade classroom is a place full of challenge, discovery, and lifelong learning. The students in our school qualify to receive free and/or reduced-price lunch and 100% of all students eat breakfast and a healthy snack provided daily. My students come to school ready to learn! They are eager learners and full of life. It is so important for me to continue to instill a love for learning despite any obstacles they face living in an inner-city.
Now more than ever it is important for me to continue to show my students the importance and value of education.
Our students have been at home for many months with limited resources and once school resumes, I want them to be excited and have new and fun opportunities.
My Project
My first graders LOVE to use hands on manipulatives in the classroom and at home to help them learn new math skills. In the past years my first graders have been able to work together and share materials to build on their math skills, but not anymore. Since students will be learning both at school and home, they need their own individual manipulatives to explore math! First grade math is all about exploration and learning new ways to solve problems. It is always amazing to watch students explore and manipulate materials in different ways to solve math problems. Individual sets of materials will make learning math at home and school fun and enjoyable.
