Hands-On Materials for Hands-On Learners

Help me give my students hands-on items for distance learning activities. We will be using the stretchy string rope toy pull toys during our Very Hungry Caterpillar Unit. We will use the rubber ducks to practice counting.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a moderate special education preschool class. My students are from 3 to 5 years old and super adorable. They all have the innate desire to form meaningful relationships and need a little boost to help them get there. For keeping them engaged, novelty is key. Students need to have a rotation of materials to keep things fresh.

The students that I work with are developing the skills that form the foundation to help them build meaningful relationships with their peers.

My students need help learning how to do the following things: wait their turn, share toys, pass items to a friend, have appropriate physical contact with peers, and use play language such as "my turn" and "your turn."

My Project

Hello. As we move into the end of the school year, I need a few more materials to keep my students happy and excited for distance learning sessions.

I am learning that the best way to engage my very young students in distance learning through the computer screen is to ensure that they are constantly busy DOING and that they are not expected to just sit and watch me talk.

I am excited to use the stretchy rope toys as make believe caterpillars. I intend to make bean bags out of the animal print balloons and use them when we study wild animals in May. I am also so excited for the rubber ducks as I will be distributing them to the students so that we can practice "5 little ducks" when we read our story Duck is Stuck.
