Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items that I'm requesting will help my students in language arts and math. I teach first grade and my students will need hands-on materials such as the phonics tubs to help them with beginning sounds and the pop-its for sound segmentation. These are part of the students' foundational skills that will catapult them into learning how to make sound and letter print connections. Students continue to need to practice the alphabet, so tracing letters will reinforce letter recognition. The phonics word match is another great practice for my students to sound out the words. This will also help them with their writing as they will sound out words they are familiar with.

The base 10 hands-on materials will help students learn the concept of number base ten such as adding and subtracting tens and ones.

This is an abstract concept, so students being able to manipulate the ten base blocks will help deepen their understanding of number sense and adding two-digit numbers.

My students are curious and ready to learn. My class includes a majority of students who are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. My students are hard workers and enjoy learning. They are enthusiastic learners.
