My students need a Multicultural Storytelling Kits, a "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" Storytelling Puppet Kit and 6 single copy hardcover books, including "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" and "The Snowy Day".
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a class for children with severe and profound mental and physical disabilities. The students range in age from six to eight. Their disabilities include epilepsy, cerebral palsy, low vision, hearing loss, and developmental delay. Some of the students are non-ambulatory, non-verbal, and require maximum assistance from adults to complete simple tasks. These children show the most response and enthusiasm when presented with auditory, visual and tactile stimulation.
Reading is an important skill to participate in. Since the students in my class are unable to read, I like them to take an active part in the storytelling process through the use of manipulatives. The students enjoy participating and are more engaged when there are tactile objects to accompany the readings.
My students need storytelling manipulatives and books. Lakeshore makes Velcro pieces/characters that go along with many children's stories. These students will be able to take an active part in the reading process.
Your help will ensure that the students in my class can enjoy reading, manipulating, and listening to a variety of children's stories.
