My Project

Hands-on, literacy centers will provide both independent and collaborative practice for my students. During the past year and a half, these young students had to learn foundational reading and writing skills through virtual learning, while relying on caregivers to support that learning. Students' ability to work collaboratively as well as independently suffered greatly during home learning. Having students back in the classroom setting is right where they need to be!

Hands-on literacy centers will enable students to build communication skills while collaborating with peers and practice foundational reading and writing skills.

When students were forced to work at home in isolation from their peers, they fell behind in their ability to appropriately communicate and independently problem solve. They did not have the opportunity to work in small group centers or play learning games with peers where these skills are practiced.

I am confident that with these amazing, hands-on materials, my students will be able to enjoy both independent practice and collaborative literacy centers while building upon concepts previously taught. Increasing their independence during our language arts block will allow me quality time to work with my small reading groups while all other students are engaged in high quality literacy activities.
