Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Research shows that students need concrete experiences with new concepts before moving onto more abstract concepts. Especially in the primary grades, students need multiple opportunities to explore math and phonics concepts using hands-on materials.

My students love to learn, and I want to help encourage and nurture that love for learning so that it continues as they move onto new, deeper concepts.

These grab-and-go math games and math counters will help support my students' mathematical thinking. The magnetic dry erase boards with Elkonin boxes will help my students to map and encode words orthographically (using sound-spelling patterns in phonics). The headphones will allow students to listen to read alouds on their iPads or on our CD player, providing even my emerging readers access to rich literature and exciting nonfiction topics. I will be able to preserve their work (and printable classroom resources) using the laminator.
