My Project
Next year I will be an elementary life skills teacher. As a teacher who aspires to provide an educational experience worthy of consumption to all students, I plan to cater to my students' needs using hands-on activities. These art materials help students develop the small muscles in their hands and fingers needed for tasks like grasping a pencil, buttoning a shirt, and tying their shoes.
Squeezing paint tubes or bottles, holding crayons or markers, and manipulating play dough all strengthen the hand muscles.
Tearing paper for collages or using glue sticks requires precise finger movements. Using art materials requires students to coordinate the movement of their hands with what they see. This skill is important for many daily tasks such as pouring juice, dressing oneself, and writing. Pouring paint, using scissors to cut construction paper, and drawing all require hand-eye coordination.
The color sorting activities can help students learn and identify different colors. Sorting manipulatives by color helps with visual discrimination and classification skills. Sorting paints, crayons, or markers by color reinforces color recognition.
Creativity and self-expression: Art allows students to express themselves creatively. This can be helpful for students who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally.
