This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a wonderful, curious bunch of blank slates. The majority of them did not attend preschool nor any other pre-k learning programs. The program that supports my classroom makes it possible for students that score low on the KEEP Assessment, which is required in the state of Utah by the Board of Education to help place the students into classes and track their progress throughout the year. It is a full day (OEK- Optional Extended Kindergarten) program designed to give the students a solid foundation into the world of education.

Success is best achieved when students enjoy learning and develop a positive attitude towards school and learning.

Our school is a positive, caring, neighborhood school which is located in a very low economic area. Over 90% of our student population qualifies for Free or Reduced-price lunch.

My class consists of 15 girls and 15 boys that are excited about learning. Many of the students are English Language Learners. They are all fresh to this new educational experience. My goal is to make it enjoyable and rigorous for each of them.

My Project

The materials that I have requested will ensure that we have enough materials for students to each get to experience hands on learning, while keeping materials separate and sanitized. With the risk of Covid-19 many of our favorite classroom activities have been difficult to do with limited materials for student use.

The purpose of my DonorsChoose project is to give students more resources and hands on learning opportunities, while adhering to social distancing and safety concerns.

Students will benefit greatly by having more materials and manipulatives available for them to use. They will not have to share with a large group, keeping social distancing up and the spread of germs down.

Students benefit socially and emotionally from having the Food Series books read to them at appropriate times. Students will benefit from pencil grips that will help them with their fine motor skills.
