Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Fun, creative hands-on practice is a key ingredient to mastering skills learned in school.
My classroom consists of 12 boys and 12 girls.
They live in a culturally diverse area of Southern California. Some students come from English only households, others come from homes where English is a second language. Our school is located in a low-income area. My students are excited about learning, making new friends, and creating fun projects this year!
My Project
My students will use the memory match game to practice reading sight words. They will be able to do this independently or in pairs, which will build social skills as well. The sight word sentences will help build sight word fluency and practice correct sentence structure. Children love puzzles, and the phonics puzzles will help them practice reading skills that they are learning. The magnetic word building and phonics write and wipe boards will also build on these skills, helping the students to become better readers and spellers.
Students need fun and creative ways to practice and master skills taught in class.
These materials will provide just that, all the while students will be reinforcing reading skills at the same time they are playing with games and puzzles.
