Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My young students are smart, energetic, little sponges. They come to school excited to soak up information. I have students from many different countries. Many don't speak English and almost all are economically disadvantaged. We also are an inclusive classroom with students of many varied needs. Despite this, my students come to class eager and ready to learn.
My students are passionate about learning and play.
They love using their imagination and creativity to learn important academic skills. This type of hands-on learning helps them build relationships and learn important academic and social-emotional skills they need to be successful in school.
My Project
Young children learn through hands-on activities. They need to touch, feel, and explore to learn. STEM activities and sensory items are some of the best tools we have to reach young students.
My students need STEM bin and sensory items so they can explore and learn important academic concepts in a way that meets their developmental needs.
Building and exploring different materials helps children explore their senses and learn in a more tactile way. This helps students build deeper connections to learning tasks.
The water beads and play-doh will be used in many of our thematic units to help children explore literacy, math, social studies, and science concepts. The wiki sticks will help students learn letters, numbers, and shapes. The magnetic tiles will help students learn problem-solving and building skills. All of these items will help them with developing fine motor skills.
Young minds are active and need to explore the world in a hands-on way. STEM and sensory bins are the perfect way to help children learn and grow in an appropriate way.
