We are a Title I school with students from many different backgrounds. Many of our students are just beginning to learn English as they start school this year. In my pre-k class alone, five different languages will be represented this year.
I have twenty, four to five year olds walking through our door every morning with the desire to learn, explore, create, and imagine.
Their love for learning is admirable and they are compassionate to those around them. These students are full of curiosity and I cannot wait to watch them discover their strengths as our year progresses!
My Project
These materials will provide a variety of hands-on experiences for my classroom. Most students learn best through active learning.
From reading to building and everything in between, the materials in this project will allow my students to be more involved in their education.
The magnetic sticks will give my students an opportunity to problem solve in ways they have not experienced. The nursery rhyme books will allow my students to experience classic rhymes which they are not exposed to as much anymore. My students will have opportunities to practice sight words, beginning sounds, and letter recognition with actual materials rather than just a worksheet. I have also requested an additional set of unifix counting cubes so that my whole class can participate with manipulatives during group time instead of just watching me do it.
Our classroom is all about experiences, I want to give them opportunities in our classroom that they may not get to experience at home. These materials will do exactly that!
