Help me give my students the ability to learn through hands-on materials. These are reading and math activities students can use to learn in an engaging way.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it’s stupid.” -Albert Einstein
I want my classroom to be a space where all students have a chance to succeed.
In order to create this environment, I must be aware of the many differences that affect student learning. I believe that each and every one of my students are unique. No two students I encounter will be exactly the same. Things such as culture, language, ability, and environment can all lead to learning differences. Diverse students bring diverse thinking and learning styles. It would be ignorant for a teacher to believe that a class full of twenty-five different students is all going to learn the same. (And, in my opinion, a class full of twenty-five students who learn the same should be a teacher’s worst nightmare!) If I believe that each and every one of my students has something to teach me, then I should view learner diversity as a blessing- twenty five unique students means twenty five unique lessons! I feel confident that each student who walks into my classroom has the potential to pass.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students learning because students, especially students with disabilities, learn best through hands-on learning. Students need to experience and learn through their 5 senses. This makes learning more meaningful and they are more likely to remember what they learned. This also makes learning more interesting. These hands-on materials are important as it helps students learn their math facts: multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition in a fun way. The reading materials will help them learn reading skills in a fun way. Students also get to learn and work in pairs and in groups. This will be a perfect opportunity for students to learn concepts hands on!
