My Students

My classroom is filled with 8 very inquisitive students. They learn best through interactive hands-on activities and I have found that technology is a way to engage them.

I teach a fully-self contained, adaptive living skills, community based instruction class.

My students do not have the academic skills needed to earn a diploma and instead work towards a Certificate of Completion. Our curriculum focuses on life skills which include cooking, catching the bus, job skills, functional math skills, reading, etc, which will help them transition post-high school.

My Project

My classroom is in need of a computer. I am requesting a Dell Inspiron Desktop Computer and a HP Deskjet printer and ink. We will be using the computers to plan bus routes (I train my students to use the bus so that they can get to various locations), look for recipes to enhance their cooking skills (cooking also helps with their reading and math skills), creating resumes, looking for jobs, work on reading and math programs, etc. I have found that using technology helps to motivate and engage my students.

My students need a little extra time in learning every day skills that many of us take for granted.

Having a computer in our classroom will give them extra time to work on projects and will allow me and my Educational Assistants to give more time and attention to our students.
