This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their perseverance, creativity, and the pride they take in accomplishing meaningful tasks. Many of my students learn best through hands-on experiences that help them build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills. They thrive when they are given opportunities to work together, problem-solve, and see the real-world value of what they are learning.

I was able to purchase a 3D printer for our classroom; however, we currently need filament in order to fully use it with students.

The 3D printer filament will support both academic and social-emotional growth by allowing students to design and create hands-on learning tools such as fidgets and functional items. These items help students with disabilities improve focus, regulate emotions, and stay engaged while working toward their learning goals.

As students design and print projects, they practice patience, collaboration, communication, and flexibility when things do not work the first time. The process encourages goal-setting, emotional regulation, and perseverance while celebrating individual strengths.

This filament will also support our classroom micro-business, where students will design, create, and sell items they produce. The money earned is reinvested into the classroom to support activities such as cooking, community-based instruction (CBI), life-skills lessons, and other meaningful learning experiences. Access to this resource allows students to build confidence, take ownership of their learning, and develop important transition skills that prepare them for adulthood, employment, and independent living.
