My students need gardening tools, books, and gloves to start a school garden. This will instill a sense of pride and ownership in our students as well as provide a hands-on learning experience.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember being in classes where teachers made you read books and answer questions? Boring, right? Learning requires students to do hands on activities which allows them to ask questions and peak curiosity.
Our students are from Compton, CA.
They come from a variety of backgrounds. These students are very curious and eager to learn despite the fact that they are underperforming on state tests. They need more experiences that allow teachers to facilitate their learning rather than lecture at them all day. They also need to take learn to develop a business sense and take pride and own a project that they have designed themselves.
My Project
Our students need to have different learning experiences in order for them to grow. If they are able to design their own garden, plan a healthy menu, and possibly show case some of their products at a Farmer's Market, they will gain a sense of pride and ownership in what they have done. They will also learn their subjects through a real-life, hands-on project.
This garden project will help our students get a holistic view of learning.
They will learn a variety of things just by doing one garden. Most of all, students will take pride in their creation and develop a work ethic.
