Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is no longer what it was ten years ago. It is no long a place to play and to learn to get along. The children are now learning how to read. To develop these lifelong readers, I need activities that meet the rigorous expectations that are set for the children.
The children in my school come from a rural town in Florida.
The children are very sweet natured and ready to learn. Most of the children are on free/reduced lunch. The parents are very hardworking and instill this into their children. Many lack the resources at home to help their children.
My Project
My students will learn the sight words that is found in a majority of their readers using the Sight Word Magnets, puzzles, stamps and learning center. These words will help them become fluent readers. They will also learn how to build words and sound them out. The phonemic awareness activities (Sort the Sound Activity Center and Phonemic Awareness Match Ups) will help the children learn letter/sound relationships, and how to use that in their writing as well as their reading.
Kindergarten can be very fun as long as it is purposeful.
With the activities requested, the children are going to be learning the skills to become lifelong readers without realizing that they are learning. The skills that they will learn will follow them throughout their entire education careers.
